Kanata
In the western section of Ottawa, you will find a large suburban area that is known as Kanata. Residents of this area drive about 22 kms to reach downtown Ottawa. The community is home to more than 95,000 people and our storage units.
Kanata is situated immediately west of the Greenbelt and is among the largest communities surrounding central Ottawa. Just past the Greenbelt is Nepean. To the south, you will find Richmond and to the west is Stittsville. North Kanata sits to the north.
Kanata was primarily an agricultural community until the 1960s when heavy development of the area began. The community was developed and designed to create a mix of commercial and residential neighborhoods. The region quickly grew large enough to be incorporated as a city in 1978. In 2001, the area was one of 11 communities that merged to become part of the city of Ottawa.
Kanata is well known for its two 18-hole golf courses, one of which is located in the business park. The course is a great service to those who work in the park and makes for a excellent way to unwind after work. The other golf course, Kanata Lakes Golf & Country Club, is open to members only. The community is renowned for its high-tech business park, which has been referred to as Silicon Valley North. This park has made Kanata a center for technology businesses.
