Riverside South
As one of Ottawa’s newest neighborhoods, Riverside South is expected to grow quickly in the coming years. The neighborhood should grow from its current population of 7,000 to more than 50,000 by 2025. Home to a large number of families, Riverside South is known as a pleasant residential place to live. It offers convenience, being situated near the Ottawa International Airport. It is just off the Airport Parkway, which provides a direct path to downtown Ottawa.
Although small now, plans are in place to make Riverside South a major community, expanding south, closer to Manotick and to the east towards Leitrim. The area was nearly vacant in the 1990s and development only began quite recently in 1996. The community is sensitive to the dangers of rapid growth and is working to respect the natural landscape as the community grows.
Riverside South contains 750 acres of protected lands, with forests and ravines. There are winding pathways and a waterfront park for recreation. There are three main parks in Riverside South: Claudette Cain Park, Four Seasons Park, and Mountain Meadows Park. These recreational areas offer soccer fields, play structures, water fun, winter skating and tobogganing. Shopping, schools and media centers are located nearby as well.
