Rockcliffe Park
Rockcliffe Park is known as the wealthiest neighborhood in Ottawa. Residents here make about double the average wage of the greater Ottawa area. The area is home to dignitaries, ambassadors and leaders in the high-tech industry. Rockcliffe Park was an independent village until 2001 when it merged with 10 other municipalities to become part of Ottawa. It is home to approximately 2,000 residents.
Rockcliffe Park runs northeast of downtown Ottawa, located on the Ottawa River’s southern bank. It lies just north of the well-known French speaking Vanier. The neighborhood has developed separately from the rest of Ottawa and therefore is less accessible to foot traffic and through traffic. Many of the homes in Rockcliffe are still wooded and situated on wide lots.
The area boasts one of the most picturesque neighborhoods in Ottawa. It offers visitors the Ottawa Rockery, a substantially sized rock garden that is maintained by the NCC.
Rockcliffe Park has a large library complex and community hall, which was initially built with private funds by Rockcliffe residents. The library is now considered a branch of the Ottawa Public Library. It is the only library that can boast a large art book collection.
