Barrhaven
Situated in the southwest corner of the city of Ottawa, you will find the rapidly growing suburb of Barrhaven. Located about 20 km from the city, Barrhaven was one of 11 communities that merged with the city of Ottawa in 2001. Locals often refer to their town as Farhaven due to its distance from the downtown section of the city. Some simply call it “The Haven”.
To the north of Barrhaven, you will find the Greenbelt, a well-known expanse of green recreation lands. The Rideau commercial space. Barrhaven is also home to the Walter Baker Sports Centre, with a library and an array of recreational facilities.
Barrhaven was one of many new suburbs that were built along the Greenbelt in the 1960s. The area is named for Mel Barr, the developer who planned and created the subdivision. The community consists mainly of larger 20th century style homes and comfortable neighborhoods.
There are many strip malls dispersed through the community, giving locals convenient access to many shops and services. It is a quiet, family oriented community, offering several amenities. You can find a small tennis club, a veterinary clinic and more.
