Bells Corners
Bells Corners is a suburban section of the city of Ottawa, home to approximately 10,000 residents. In 2001 Nepean was one of 11 suburban communities that merged with the city of Ottawa.
This once rural community was named after local Hugh Bell, who lived and farmed the area in the 1800s. The area was an originally part of Nepean Township, which later became the city of Nepean. Most of Bells Corners was destroyed by fire in August 1870, along with several other neighborhoods. The area was rebuilt slowly and in 1950 became a commercial hub for outlying rural areas.
Although Bells Corners has become a dynamic, bustling community, it still retains much of its rural charm. Bells Corners is a great place to get away with the family for the weekend or for a vacation. It has schools and parks in a safe residential family environment. Commuters living in Bells Corners travel to the city of Ottawa or to nearby Kanata’s high tech business park for work as well as government storage facilities.
Bells Corners is known for its commercial strip on Robertson Road, dominated by car dealers, gas stations and fast food restaurants. This area is a major thoroughfare for commuters traveling from Kanata to Ottawa.
